Newport RI Fall Events in October 2026: Your Local Guide

The fences came down on Sunday. For four days, Newport Yachting Center Marina and six other sites around the harbor held more than 450 boats across 17 acres, and anyone who wanted to see them paid for the privilege, from a $33 single day pass to $300 for a spot in the Windward VIP Lounge. A few blocks away, boats from sailing's 12 Metre class raced on Narragansett Bay under Ida Lewis Yacht Club's organizing authority, the same class of yacht that defended the America's Cup here from 1958 to 1987. Down the street, the Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival ran its own gated weekend with a Chopped judge headlining. Three separate events, with a mix of ticketed and free access, shared one weekend: September 17 through 20.

After the weekend, Newport's calendar continues with a varied schedule of activities through Halloween.

Three Events, One Weekend

The boat show and wine festival were ticketed; 12 Metre racing could be watched free from shore. The Newport International Boat Show marked its 55th year and, per its own reporting, generated $22.5 million in local economic impact in 2025 alone. The show brings a major marine-industry event to the waterfront for four days.

Event Dates How you got in
Newport International Boat Show Sept. 17-20 $33-$300 depending on day and lounge access
12 Metre North American Championship Sept. 18-20 Free to watch from shore, boats docked at Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina for public viewing
Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival Sept. 18-20 Ticketed, celebrity-chef programming

The wine festival sold out its brunches before the weekend even started, showing the demand for its programming.

Newport's fall calendar brings together ticketed events, free activities, and local traditions.

Newport's Fall Calendar Through Halloween

The weeks after the boat show bring a mix of community events, outdoor activities, and ticketed programs through Halloween.

Newport's Italian heritage celebration runs September 25 through October 16, a three-week stretch with no admission gate. The Norman Bird Sanctuary's Harvest Fair takes over the sanctuary October 3 and 4 with sack races, hay rides, a mud pit, and tug-of-war. The Rogue Island Comedy Festival, created by Rhode Islanders Doug Key and Katie Latimer, runs October 8 through 11 across multiple venues, and it's billed as the state's only stand-up comedy festival.

The rest of the stretch keeps that pattern:

  • Broadway Street Fair, October 10, noon to 6 p.m., free, running from Equality Park to Washington Square
  • Amica Newport Marathon & Half Marathon, October 11, a course that runs past the Bellevue Avenue mansions and costs nothing to watch from the sidewalk
  • Bowen's Wharf Seafood Festival, October 17-18, honoring what organizers call the harvest of the sea with local vendors under the wharf's tents
  • Japan-America Friendship Festival, October 17, free and rain or shine at Touro Park, part of Newport's biennial sister-city relationship with Shimoda
  • Queen Anne Square pumpkin patch, October 8 through 31, free admission with pay-per-pumpkin pricing, run by St. John's and Trinity Church

Together, these events show the range of Newport's fall calendar, from community fairs and outdoor activities to comedy and waterfront festivals.

Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week

Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week runs October 1 through 4. General admission to the Concours d'Elegance is $250 and VIP access is $500. Jay Leno is a recurring presence. The Broad Arrow Auction is running its first-ever Northeast sale during Motor Week this year.

But something changed for 2026 that's worth noticing if you've lived here through past Octobers. The Concours d'Elegance, the marquee day of the week, is moving off The Breakers lawn, where it's been held in recent years, and onto Fort Adams State Park. That's a shift from private mansion grounds to public parkland, and it comes alongside a brand-new addition: the Audrain Supercar Concours on October 3, the first event of its kind in North America dedicated purely to supercars and hypercars, also staged at Fort Adams.

The Concours d'Elegance remains ticketed. Several of the week's other events are free and public, including the Saturday morning Cars & Coffee at Fort Adams, the Tour d'Elegance driving tour across Aquidneck Island that ends with a public display on Bellevue Avenue, and the Bellevue Car Display itself. This year, visitors can see these free public displays at Fort Adams and on Bellevue Avenue.

Those public displays add another option to Newport's fall calendar.

Reading Newport's Fall Calendar

Across these six weeks, Newport's fall calendar includes ticketed events, community festivals, and outdoor activities. Motor Week is one part of the schedule.

In October, the Cliff Walk is at its clearest and least crowded all year, and the mansions along it remain open for tours, while fall events continue through Halloween.

Whether you're watching this calendar as a longtime resident or wondering what it's like to live inside it year-round, William Darling has spent years reading Newport's rhythms, both the ticketed ones and the ones that run quietly underneath them. If you'd like to talk through what any part of this island looks like up close, schedule a consultation whenever it's useful.
